Sew: Easy Poncho

Sew: Easy Poncho

Do you want to know how to make a poncho. I think this is such a versatile garment. It's great for cold days when you want extra layers or its great for those British Summer days when you need a jacket of some form. I can definitely see this being the perfect item of clothing to wear at a festival! This is 100% the quickest and easiest thing I have ever sewn and probably the garment I will probably wear the most.

What you'll need:
- 1.5 yards of fabric. The fabric I used was a 46" square piece that had frayed edges all the way around.
- 1m of Bias Binding (Approx.)
- Scissors
- Pins

My fabric was already frayed however, if you would like to fray the edges of your fabric use this great tutorial by Colleen from FashionSewingBlogTv
How to Fray Fabric

How to make your poncho:
Cut your fabric so that it is square. My square was 46" x 46".

Fold your square in half, right sides together.

Fold the square in half again.

Draw a curve in the folded corner of the fabric. Remember to cut smaller than you think you will need. You can always cut more later but can't add more on. Just as a reference mine was using these measurements:

 Cut your curve out.

Try your poncho on and check you are happy with the neckline. Remember your neckline doesn't have to be oval like mine. You could have a square neckline.

Pin your bias binding to the neckline.

 Sew your binding into place.

I really love the way I feel in the poncho, its so comfortable but still stylish.

How would you style this poncho? Let me know in the comments!
